Last month we focused on gas stoves and common issues they have. This month we are going to look at its counterpart – the electric stove. Just as before, we at Jamerson Appliance Repair do not want you to attempt any repairs on your own. Electric stoves run on higher current and power than the standard 110 in many appliances in the home, and serious injury can occur if you do not understand what you are doing. Leave it to the professionals.
Here are some of the most common issues encountered with electric stoves.
The stove will not turn on.
The unit is not getting electricity to the burners. Be sure it is properly plugged in first. If it is, check the breaker box for a fuse or tripped breaker. If you cannot run down the problem checking these, contact us.
The coils will not heat
This can be an interesting issue. There is likely a loose connection, or something stuck between the coil element and the stove itself. It could be the coil is not plugged in from a loose connection. It could be you are not on the right element as well. (Don’t laugh, it can happen). If these will not run down the problem, there is something wrong with the burner internally. Call us.
The stove sparks when turned on
This is very dangerous. Immediately turn the stove off and call us for help. It could be a loose wire connection or damage to the element. Either way, do not take any unnecessary chances. Those sparks can hurt and burn you very badly.
Indicator light will not functioning
If your burners will still turn on, you don’t have an element problem. This problem comes from a defective control switch or the small light that tells you the stove is on. Either way, contact a technician from Jamerson Appliance Repair for help.
The burner temperature will not adjust
If the burner gets too hot regardless of the setting, there may be an internal ignition switch as the culprit. You guessed it; call us.
As you can see, there are plenty of reasons why your electric stove will not function correctly. Even if you are experiencing a problem we have not covered in this blog, you should certainly call us to come and look at your stove. Trying to fix a problem yourself is a recipe for disaster.
